Alona “Lorna” McKeever, 62, of Charleston, WV, gained her wings on October 12, 2024, after a long illness. She passed at CAMC Memorial with her family by her side.

Alona was born in Charleston to Albert Lacy and Margaret Elizabeth Nelson Redmon. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her 10-year-old son, William Suntay Nelson; husband, William “Bill” McKeever, who earned a Purple Heart while serving in the military; grandparents, Albert Nelson and Pearly Sue Nelson; sister, Billie Jo Nelson; brother, Albert Redmon; and stepfather, Leon Redmon.

Alona is survived by her daughters, Tawnetta McKeever of Charleston and Latisha McKeever of Alabama; son Deangelo McKeever of Charleston; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Berthe Lee Nelson and Sandre Lee Nelson, both of Charleston and Moreticia Ann Cox of Dry Branch; brother Bobby Lee Nelson of Ripley; 8 nieces and 8 nephews; ten great nieces and ten great-nephews; her “baby” Pebbles, along with many cousins.

After the passing of her mother, Alona became a mother figure to her younger sister, Moreticia. She cared for her as if she was her very own child.

Alona owned her own business, Gypy’s Art, where she was able to share her love of painting for more than 10 years. She loved spending time with her many grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Alona was a Christian by faith.
