David M Porterfield

David Michael Porterfield, of Morgantown, WV, formerly of Charleston, WV, and Huntington, WV, died at his residence on January 9, 2025. He was the son of Ralph and Clara Porterfield, deceased. David was born June 16, 1945, in Oak Hill, WV. He was a graduate of Mullens High School and Concord College. 

Often called Mike by family and friends, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, and following the stock market. He retired from the WV Department of Education after many years of service and was most recently a member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Huntington. David’s favorite place was his family farm in Union Hall, near Smith Mountain Lake, VA. He loved his family deeply. 

David is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Christopher Grant. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Kay Porterfield, son, Ralph David Porterfield, brother Ralph W Porterfield, and sister, Mary F Porterfield. 

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 16, at Elk Funeral and Cremation Service, 2001 Pennsylvania Avenue, Charleston, WV, with a memorial service to follow. Per David's wishes, he will be cremated.
