John Roy Lutz, Sr. 87, of Charleston, passed away May 17,2024 John was born July 4,1936 in Charleston West Virginia to the late Robert Donald Lutz and Catherine Brightwell Lively. He was also preceded in death by his wife Julia Lucille Lutz and brothers Robert and Richard Lutz.
John was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, Class of 1954. John joined the Army after high school and spent time in Germany during his service from 1954 to 1956. After his enlistment he worked for the Green Tree Garden Center and Union Carbide before being employed with the US Postal Service, retiring after 42 years in 2001. John is survived by sons, John R. Lutz, Jr., William S. (Cathy) Lutz, grandson Travis (Claudia) Lutz, many other family members, and friends. John spent 25 years managing little and senior league baseball at Bigley Field, he also coached church league and west side independent basketball teams; John was a member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston. Funeral service will be held at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, 1919 Bigley Avenue, Charleston, WV at 12:30 PM Tuesday May 21,2024 with visitation beginning at 11:30 AM. With Pastor Jeremy Jett officiating. A private burial will be in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV.
