Nelson Lee Fowler

Nelson Lee Fowler, 75, of Charleston, passed away August 7, 2018, after a sudden illness.

He was born September 14, 1942, in Morgantown, WV to the late Theodore Everette and Elutea Persinger Fowler, and raised by his step-father, John D. Samuels, mother, Elutea, and his beloved grandmother, Dessie Persinger.

He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, Class of 1960, a veteran of the U. S. Army, a civil engineer graduate of WV Tech. Nelson was an employee with the State of WV Department of Highways with over 30 years service and a former employee of F.E.M.A. and a proud member of Kanawha #20 Masonic Lodge A.F & A.M., Kanawha Valley York Rite, Scottish Rite Bodies, Eastern Star, Jesters, and Beni Kedem Shrine, where he was past president and emeritus member of the Oriental Band and was affectionately known as "POTHOLE". He was the current president of WVPERSA.

Nelson is survived by his loving family, wife of 53 years, Kathryn Fowler, daugters; Tammy and Kip Starcher of Given, WV,  Michelle and David Spooner of Wheeling, his WVU Fan pal , Logan Hundley, and his 4 grand dogs, and beloved grand cat.

Nelson could light up a room and was loved by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Nelson' s Life will be held Saturday, August 11, at 3:00 P.M., at the Elk River Church of the Nazarene, 143 Dutch Road, Charleston, WV  25302, with Danny Pritt and Jim Lowry officiating. Family will receive friends from 1 P.M. until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to the Children's Hospital or the Transportation Fund  C/O  Beni Kedem Shrine, 100 Quarrier St., Charleston,  WV  25301.
