Russell Smith

Russell Smith, 89, of Elkview, passed away December 29, 2017, after a short illness.

He was born January 8, 1928, to the late John and Tressie Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife; Velva Maxine Smith, brothers; Raymond Smith and Hershel Smith.

Russell is survived by his loving family; step-sons; Larry W. (Lois)  Abshire and John P. (Shirley) Abshire, sisters; Vada Kidd, Phyllis (Bobby) Tignor, Lula (Freddy) Taylor, brother; Charles (Linda) Smith Grandchildren; John W. (Kim) Abshire, Synetta (Todd) Harlan, Larry P. (Laura) Abshire, great grandchildren; Lindsay Abshire, Jonathon Abshire, Zackary Mathis Abshire, Richie Abshire, Reece Abshire.  5 Great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Brittany Plantz and the staff at Kanawha Hospice.

Funeral service will be 12:00 PM, (Noon) Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at Elk Funeral Home, 2001 Pennsylvania Ave., Charleston, WV, with Pastor Larry W. Abshire officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney, WV.  Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until Service Time Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387.
